Shirley Williams Biography(1930–2021) was a British politician and academic. She was a founding member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1981, formed by a group of Labour Party moderates known as the “Gang of Four” . The SDP later merged with the Liberal Party to form the Liberal Democrats.Williams served as a Labour Member of Parliament (MP) and held several cabinet positions, including Secretary of State for Education and Science and Paymaster General . After her time in the House of Commons, she was appointed to the House of Lords as Baroness Williams of Crosby in 1993. She led the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords from 2001 to 2004 .In addition to her political career, Williams was a professor emerita of electoral politics at the Harvard Kennedy School . She passed away on April 12, 2021, at the age of 90.
