Rishi Sunak Biography (born 12 May 1980) is a British politician who served as the 57th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from October 2022 to July 2024. He is the first person of Indian descent and the first Hindu to hold this office. Prior to his premiership, Sunak was Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022, overseeing the UK’s economic response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the furlough scheme. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for Richmond in 2015 and served as Leader of the Conservative Party from 2022 to 2024. Sunak’s tenure as Prime Minister ended following the Conservative Party’s defeat in the 2024 general election, after which he became Leader of the Opposition until November 2024.
