Description
Nikita Khrushchev (1894–1971) was a Soviet statesman who led the USSR during part of the Cold War. He served as First Secretary of the Communist Party from 1953 to 1964 and as Premier from 1958 to 1964. Khrushchev is remembered for initiating de-Stalinization, promoting limited reforms, and encouraging space exploration, including Yuri Gagarin’s historic flight. Internationally, he played a central role in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, which brought the world close to nuclear war. Though later removed from power, Khrushchev’s leadership marked a significant era of tension, reform, and confrontation in Soviet and global history.
