Mohammad Javad Zarif (born January 8, 1960) is an Iranian diplomat and academic who served as Iran’s Foreign Minister from 2013 to 2021.
Early Life and Education
Zarif was born in Tehran and completed his primary and secondary education at the Alavi School. In 1977, he moved to the United States to pursue higher education. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in International Relations from San Francisco State University in 1982. Subsequently, he obtained a Ph.D. in International Law and Policy from the University of Denver in 1988.
