Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (born August 23, 1961, in Torghabeh, Khorasan Razavi Province, Iran) is a prominent Iranian conservative politician and former military officer. He has held several key positions in Iran’s political and military landscape.

Ghalibaf began his career in the Basij militia and later joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the Iran–Iraq War. He served as the commander of the IRGC’s Aerospace Force from 1997 to 2000 and was the Chief of Iran’s police force from 2000 to 2005. His tenure in these roles was marked by a strong security-oriented approach.

In 2005, Ghalibaf was elected Mayor of Tehran, a position he held until 2017. During his mayoralty, he focused on urban development and infrastructure projects, including the expansion of Tehran’s metro system.
