Mir-Hossein Mousavi (born March 2, 1942, in Khameneh, Iran) is an Iranian architect, painter, intellectual, and politician. He served as the 45th and last Prime Minister of Iran from 1981 to 1989.
After his tenure as Prime Minister, Mousavi became a presidential adviser and was the president of the Iranian Academy of Arts until 2009.
In 2009, Mousavi ran as a reformist candidate in the presidential election. Following the disputed results, he emerged as the leader of the opposition during the post-election unrest, which became known as the Green Movement.
Since 2011, Mousavi has been under house arrest without trial.
