Margaret Beckett (born 1943) is a British politician and a long-serving member of the Labour Party. Elected as Member of Parliament in 1974, she became the first woman to serve as the UK’s Foreign Secretary from 2006 to 2007 under Prime Minister Tony Blair. Throughout her career, Beckett has held several senior cabinet positions, including Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. She also briefly served as acting Leader of the Labour Party in 1994. Known for her resilience and experience, Margaret Beckett remains a respected figure in British politics.
