born in August 1950 in Hebei Province, is a retired senior Chinese politician and a close ally of President Xi Jinping. He held various Party leadership roles in provinces like Hebei, Heilongjiang, and Guizhou before rising to national prominence.
In 2017, he joined the Politburo Standing Committee, China’s top decision-making body, and served as Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee from 2018 to 2023, making him one of the most powerful figures in Chinese politics during that period.
