Eisaku Sata Biography

(1901–1975) was a Japanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Japan from 1964 to 1972, the longest-serving in the post-war era at that time. A member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), he focused on economic growth, infrastructure development, and Japan’s peaceful international role.

He is best remembered for signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1970 and for securing the return of Okinawa from U.S. administration in 1972. In 1974, Satō was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts toward nuclear disarmament and promoting peace in Asia.
