Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890–1969) was an American military leader and the 34th President of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961. A five-star general in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe and played a decisive role in the D-Day invasion that led to victory over Nazi Germany. As president, Eisenhower strengthened NATO, ended the Korean War, expanded the interstate highway system, and promoted peace through a strong defense. He is remembered for his leadership, balanced foreign policy, and contributions to both military and civilian progress in America.
