Deng Xiaoping Biography
(1904–1997) was a Chinese revolutionary and statesman who became the paramount leader of China from 1978 to the early 1990s. Born in Sichuan Province, he joined the Communist Party in his youth and took part in the Long March and the Chinese Revolution.
After Mao Zedong’s death, Deng emerged as China’s top leader and introduced major economic reforms known as “Reform and Opening Up.” He shifted China from a strict planned economy toward a market-oriented one, which led to rapid modernization and growth.
Deng is remembered as the architect of modern China, balancing socialism with economic pragmatism, and transforming the country into one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
