Chen Shui-bian Biography
is a Taiwanese politician who served as the President of Taiwan (Republic of China) from 2000 to 2008. He was born on October 12, 1950, in Tainan County, Taiwan. Coming from a poor farming family, Chen worked hard academically and graduated in law from National Taiwan University, later becoming a successful lawyer.
He entered politics as a member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and became known for supporting Taiwan’s democracy and independence. His election as president in 2000 ended more than 50 years of Kuomintang (KMT) rule, marking a historic moment in Taiwan’s political history.
After leaving office, Chen faced corruption charges and was imprisoned, though he was later released on medical parole. Despite controversies, he remains a significant figure in Taiwan’s democratic development.
