Description
Muhammad Ayub Khan (1907–1974) was a Pakistani military leader and politician who served as the country’s second President from 1958 to 1969. A former Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Army, he came to power through the country’s first military coup, imposing martial law in 1958. His rule is remembered for introducing the 1962 Constitution, rapid economic growth, and modernization efforts, though also criticized for authoritarianism and lack of democracy. Ayub Khan resigned in 1969 amid political unrest and handed power to General Yahya Khan. He remains one of Pakistan’s most significant and controversial leaders in history.
