Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani Biography (1934–2017) was a pivotal Iranian cleric and politician who played a central role in the establishment and evolution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Born in Bahraman, Kerman Province, Rafsanjani pursued religious studies in Qom, where he became a disciple of Ayatollah Khomeini . A founding member of the Islamic Republic, he served as Iran’s fourth president from 1989 to 1997
Rafsanjani was instrumental in shaping Iran’s political landscape, serving as Speaker of Parliament, President, and Chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council . He was also a member of the Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for selecting the Supreme Leader
Known for his pragmatic approach, Rafsanjani advocated for economic liberalization and sought to balance Iran’s ideological commitments with modernization efforts . His tenure was marked by efforts to rebuild the country post-Iran-Iraq War and to engage with the international community .
