Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919) was an American statesman, military leader, and writer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. Before his presidency, he was the Governor of New York and Vice President of the United States. Roosevelt is known for his progressive policies, trust-busting, conservation efforts, and leadership in the construction of the Panama Canal. A proponent of the “Square Deal,” he championed social reforms, economic regulation, and environmental preservation. Roosevelt remains a symbol of energetic leadership, reform, and the promotion of American strength and international influence.
