Asif Ali Zardari (born 26 July 1955) is a Pakistani politician and co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He is the widower of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the 11th President of Pakistan, serving from 2008 to 2013. Zardari played a key role in Pakistan’s democratic transition after military rule and worked to strengthen parliamentary democracy. His presidency focused on political reconciliation, economic challenges, and regional relations. Despite facing corruption allegations throughout his career, he remains an influential figure in Pakistani politics and continues to play a central role in the PPP’s leadership.
