Leon Trotsky (1879–1940) was a Russian revolutionary, Marxist theorist, and one of the key leaders of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Born Lev Davidovich Bronstein in Ukraine, he became a close ally of Vladimir Lenin and played a crucial role in organizing the Red Army during the Russian Civil War.
