Alexi Kudrin Biography , born on October 12, 1960, in Dobele, Latvia (then USSR), is a Russian economist and politician. He served as Russia’s Minister of Finance from 2000 to 2011, becoming well known for his prudent fiscal policies and efforts to stabilize the Russian economy during Vladimir Putin’s presidency.
Kudrin built large financial reserves, reduced debt, and guided Russia through the 2008 global financial crisis. After leaving the finance ministry, he continued to influence policy as an economic advisor and later as Chairman of the Accounts Chamber. He is regarded as one of Russia’s most respected reform-minded economists.
