KiichirÅ_ Hiranuma (1867–1952) was a Japanese politician who served briefly as Prime Minister of Japan in 1939. A former judge and statesman, he was known for his conservative and nationalist views.
His government supported Japan’s growing militarism and expansion in Asia but collapsed after the outbreak of World War II in Europe. After the war, Hiranuma was tried by the Allied Tribunal, sentenced to life imprisonment for war crimes, and released in 1952 shortly before his death.
