born in December 1942 in Jiangsu Province, is a Chinese politician who served as the President of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party from 2002 to 2012. A technocrat by training, he studied hydraulic engineering at Tsinghua University before entering politics.
Hu promoted a leadership style focused on collective decision-making and stability. His policies emphasized China’s “peaceful rise,” economic growth, and the concept of a “Harmonious Society,” aiming to balance development with social equity. He peacefully handed over power to Xi Jinping in 2012.
